August 2002

The basic frame consumed 221m of timber, the cladding a further 420m and the roof 12 sheets of 8'x4'12mm ply. Finally I can stand back and feel progress has been made.

Meanwhile the timber treatment is proving vexing. I bought a 1L tim of Cuprinol "Mellow Stone" Heritage shade which as you can see wasn't quite enough to cover the end panel. But I liked the color so bought another 7.5L. However, when I opened the first can, it had the consistency of water, about the same covering power and little effect on the color of the timber. I suspected a serious lack of pigment. Of the other two cans, one was very slightly better but the other was even worse! Neither match the 1L can. My complaint to ICI was countered with the advise that I should have "aggitated the product more".........
